"Strawberry Fields" Get Back!
Over 500 people packed the Gazebo grounds last Thursday night for a Magical Mystery Tour back to the 1960's. The last free outdoor concert by the Recreation Department this summer was a huge success as "Strawberry Fields," a Beatle tribute band, performed dozens of Beatle classics.
The award winning band not only sounded like the Beatles, they also looked, dressed and spoke like John, Paul, George and Ringo. The first half of the concert had them dressed in the Beatle trademark suits (including "Beatle boots!"). After an intermission the band came back in full Sgt. Pepper attire and performed songs from that part of the Beatles' career.
The sights and sounds were amazing as the band even used similar instruments (like Paul's left handed violin shaped bass and Ringo's Ludwig drums). It reminded many of the '70's Broadway Show "Beatlemania" and, as it happened, one of "Strawberry Fields" members is actually from that show. The evening ended with the band coming back for an encore in which they rocked "Helter Skelter" for a most enthusiastic crowd.
